CORCAN Team Helping Veterans’ House in Ottawa

Veterans’ House is a 40-bed facility that was opened by the Multifaith Housing Initiative in Ottawa in February 2021. As outlined on the organization’s website, this is the first community house built for homeless veterans and the pioneering project specifically targets the needs of the rising number of homeless veterans who are "living rough" in Ottawa. It combines safe housing with essential on-site rehabilitation services. CORCAN is engaged in this initiative through the assistance of staff and our offender on-the-job training program.  This includes products and services from the CORCAN program being donated to help them open the facility, including furnishings, linens and toweling for the facility, and even honey and maple syrup as part of the welcome packages. Many CORCAN sites are contributing to this community initiative, and the onsite CORCAN team incorporated transitional employment and on-the-job training for a couple of participants under CSC supervision.
