CSC is committed to building an inclusive, respectful and welcoming work environment for all. That is why, in 2014, we were proud to take a leadership role amongst federal government departments and become the first one to formally launch a Positive Space program.
The Positive Space Initiative (PSI) is a peer-based education and support program designed to increase acceptance for and inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and questioning (LGBTQ+) people. Diversity and inclusion are essential elements of modern and high performing workplaces, yet many LGBTQ+ people continue to face heterosexism, homophobia and transphobia at work.
Positive Space is an international movement striving to increase safety and inclusion for people of all genders and sexual orientations. Champions participate in training, visually designate their workspace, and embody the spirit of Positive Space by promoting diversity and offering support.

Positive Space has been embraced by the private industry, not-for-profit agencies, educational institutions, and governments around the world. The Treasury Board Secretariat sponsored an interdepartmental Positive Space pilot project in 2013 with support from the Ontario Public Service Pride Network, of which CSC was an active participant. When CSC’s Executive Committee (EXCOM) approved Positive Space for CSC in 2014, a national working group was established.
We are proud to say that Positive Space training has started at CSC. Our Commissioner and his fellow executives launched it by receiving the first Positive Space training session on November 4. Future sessions are now being offered to interested employees in our regions with the goal of building a Positive Space network of Champions. Together we will all make CSC a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
