Correctional Service Canada (CSC), in partnership with Jour de la Terre, an organization whose mission is to help citizens and organizations reduce their environmental impact, will reforest approximately 3 hectares of land bordering the wastewater treatment lagoons at Archambault complex. Approximately 5,000 trees will be planted this spring, contributing to CSC’s fight against climate change (carbon dioxide is absorbed and stored by growing trees).
The trees have been donated by the Government of Quebec, Department of Forests, Wildlife and Parks as part of the City of Montreal’s reforestation objective to plant 375,000 trees in the Greater Montreal area in 2017, in celebration of their 375th anniversary.
This reforestation project is one of many such projects that have been undertaken in the Quebec Region since 2008. To date nearly 8,000 donated trees have been planted, primarily at the Federal Training Centre in Laval. These reforested lands create new habitat for the region’s flora and fauna resulting in improved biodiversity.
